Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is more common than Diabetes in the U.S.

Did you know that the overall prevalence of Chronic Kidney Disease in the U.S. is approximately 14%, according to the 2015 Annual Data Report provided by the United States Renal Data Systems. In comparison to diabetes, the prevalence of CKD in adults 30 years and older is currently estimated at 13.6%, and is projected to increase to 14.4% in 2020 and 16.7% in 2030.

Renalogic Solutions DiagramA study recently published in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases projects that more than half of U.S. adults aged 30 to 64 are likely to develop CKD in their lifetime.  It is estimated that in the overall population, one in nine people in the U.S. currently has CKD.  However it increases alarmingly to one in five people with Hypertension and one in three people with Diabetes that currently have CKD. Further troubling, is the fact that many people who have CKD do not know that they have it until it is too late to avoid kidney failure and dialysis.

If left unchecked, CKD will develop into End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), requiring some form of renal replacement therapy (RRT), most commonly dialysis, for continuation of life.  However, studies show that early identification and appropriate care intervention can slow down or reverse the progression of the  disease.  It is far more preferable and cost-effective to work with members while their kidneys are still functioning than when they cease to function.

Comprehensive Solutions to Avoid and Contain Cost

Keeping your members at risk of CKD healthy, and avoiding and containing the cost of CKD in all its stages, inclusive of ESRD and dialysis care, requires specialized expertise.  As the nation’s leading expert, Renalogic can help you give your members the best quality care options, while reducing healthcare expenditures.

Renalogic offers a comprehensive end-to-end suite of consultative services designed to manage the entire spectrum of chronic kidney disease.

  • We begin with data analytics to find and risk stratify your members at risk of CKD; not only those members who have prior diagnosed renal health issues but also the “Silent CKD” members who are as yet undiagnosed, but indicate significant risk of having or developing CKD.
  • Once identified, we offer a specialized CKD care management program customized to each individual member’s health and education needs with a focus on maintaining and improving renal health.
  • If some members do progress to ESRD, Renalogic's dialysis cost containment services can provide customized cost containment options specific to each member’s situation, reducing billed charges, often up to 85%.
